He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and later in the Reserves, rising to the rank of Captain and working as an Intelligence Officer. Following his service in WWI, Karl Lemp joined D’Arcy (DMB&B) Advertising Agency where he worked for 45-years rising to the position of Vice-President in charge of Print Production. Karl managed several leading D’Arcy clients including Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola, TWA and others for many years. He retired in the late 1990s and passed away in 2018.

D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles (DMB&B) was an advertising agency in the United States with 131 offices in 75 countries. The company was founded in 1906 as the D'Arcy Company in St. Louis, Missouri. The firm engineered Anheuser-Busch's slogan "This Bud's for you" as well as Trans World Airlines' "We Want To Be Your Airline" and designed creative campaigns around them. In November 1985, D'Arcy-MacManus Masius (D-MM) merged with Benton & Bowles (B&B) to form D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles.
