Характеристики

This is a gorgeous Greek Corinthian Aryballos dating to  500-450 BC.

This beautifully painted piece depicts a seated lion and standing lioness confronting each other, The detail and the quality of the painted animals is just terrific. You can almost feel the conversation between the two of them.

The facial features, the mane and musculature detail on both is outstanding.

Aryballoi like this one was used by athletes to hold oil that was to be rubbed on their body before exercise or a contest. The small hole in the handle had a strap pushed through it so the aryballoi could be tied tightly to the athlete's wrist.

The Aryballos is 3 1/2" tall and 2' wide. The rim is 1 1/4" in diameter. The bottom is flat and about 1 1/2" in diameter.
