Description
One of my favorite centerpieces and only the third of its kind that I've seen. The first one I saw was from a Skinner sale back in 2010 (see last two pictures from that sale) and the other is currently in a private collection. All three have the same cutout handles and none of them had a lid. Did they originally have a lid? Who knows...the cutout is suggestive but could also just be stylish. Two laps form the sides, there are two seams with early nails, handles attached with rose head nails, bottom board is pegged. It's a massive, approx 26"L x 19"W x 7"H (9"H counting handles). Bottom board is one-piece. Minimal wear, no repairs, no losses, patina and surface are wonderful.
