Характеристики

Though this is sold as is for parts and/or repair, it is actually somewhat playable, though the 9th fret has fallen out, and the frets are somewhat loose and not level due to the condition of the fingerboard.  There is lots of age and play related wear, dirt, dust, rust, chips, scratches, etc...throughout the banjo.  It's just a venerable old unrestored survivor that has had a somewhat rough likely case-less life but hasn't been horribly mistreated, but obviously played quite a bit.  Given how it even sounds right now, the playwear is likely due to it having been and ready to be again a really good sounding banjo.

No missing OEM parts but Tailpiece Rosette (original SSS tailpiece is present), 5th peg, some pearl and wire inlay, string nut and 5th string nut/pip, wood neck securing wedges, and one nut although it matches and is old but gold plated.  The head, strings, and bridge are obviously not original.  The fifth peg is a 20's or 30's original, not original to this banjo.

I did not have enough room to post more pictures, but the paper SS Stewart Thoroughbred round label in the rim is still there and recognizable but in rough shape.  I'm happy to send more pictures of what you would like to see if you message me.

Serial # 67819 matching on rim and rimstick, about c.1900

Several collectors have told me the heel carving on this one is a rare variant not commonly seen; possibly this is why this individual banjo has the ivoroid plaque in the rim that says "Special" in front of Thoroughbred?

27 1/16" Scale;  22 frets;  1.190" width of fingerboard immediately in front of nut slot;  11" High crown head.

Peghead/Neckshaft playwear and staining and worn/missing finish; color on green and red neckshaft laminations faded but obvious what they were;  Neck laminations all seem ok.  Fingerboard has cracks, chips, separations, lots of deep playwear, and is dropping loose frets...Salvagable, but likely a new board is better.  VERY slight twist unless as I suspect it's an illusion from an uneven topped nut and/or slight twist to peghead at nut area?  Approximately 1/16" relief at about fret 10 with an 18" Starrett machinist's ground straight edge resting on frets 1 and 22.  Top of third nylon string (strung with nylon now and for the last 20 years) just kissing bottom of 3/16" line of rule sitting on fret tops at end of neck with 1/2" bridge and normal head tension.  Possibly neck adjuster needs adjusted as heel has some airspace to pot, but I've never touched the neck adjuster.  No cracks in heel from neck adjuster screws that I see.

This is sold strictly as found, as is, unrestored, not useable in it's present condition, for parts or repair; if you have something that concerns you, ask me before buying.  If you need any specific pictures to satisfy yourself, please ask me.  It will be shipped in a modern used soft case.

I am an experienced banjo luthier and have packed and shipped over 2,000 instruments in my life with none damaged that I packed or gave instructions to others on how to pack for shipping, so this will be packed with the respect and care that you as the buyer and it deserves as a venerable old Stewart Thoroughbred, as well as fully insured for shipping.  Any returns will be handled consistent with ebay policies and are subject to a 20% restocking fee.

Thank you.
