Genuine Swedish Army Aluminum Mess Kit

Genuine Swedish army issue M/44 aluminum mess kit set ("Svenska Armens Enmanskoket" aka "Kokkarl") with the original larger Swedish Army issue Trangia alcohol burner stove ("spiritbrannare"), plastic fuel bottle ("spiritflaken" or "Plastflaska for rodspirit"), aluminum windscreen, issue M/51 plastic cup ("kasa") & issue can opener, all Swedish army and all new old stock, all probably made in the 1960's, plus two spare burner O-rings which are new. The pot and pan combo is very dark green (gront). The pot has the two grooves at the top which distinguishes it from the stainless steel M/41 versions which have no grooves.

Photos in this listing are representative, the set you will receive will be in at least as good condition as the set in the pictures.

All of the aluminum pots (bottom half) and pans (top half) are stamped with the three Swedish crowns and either the 5294 alloy number or the letters NC followed by a two digit year from the early 1960's.  The pot holds 1.3 liters or about 5 cups of liquid, the pan .7 liter or about 2.5 cups. The pan has a steel slightly magnetic handle with two folding rings.  The pot has a circular steel wire bail handle with indentions for the wire hook attached.  There are several tricks to using the bail properly which are detailed on the Internet. The pot and pan together have an oval cross section unlike the kidney bean shape of the German and Polish or the D shape of the Swiss mess kits and hold more volume than any military kit around.

The fuel bottle hold .3 liters or about 8 ounces of alcohol and are dated on the bottom with a month and two digit year number in the 1960's.  Some of the bottles have the yellow decal.

The slightly corroded very high quality brass metal burners are marked with the three Swedish crowns on the bottom with either the manufacturer's name SVEA and NC followed by a two digit year in the 1960's or with Trangia and no date. These are larger than and hold more fuel than the Trangia burners sold new today (which are also excellent equipment).  These polish up nicely with Brasso and look great.  Two spare brand new buna nitrile rubber O-rings are included as spares as it is easy to forget and melt the one in the lid when the burner is still hot.

About two thirds of the black aluminum windscreens are not marked, the others have the three Swedish crowns with the manufacturer's name SVEA and NC followed by a two digit year in the 1960's like some of the burners.

The dark green hard plastic cup is deep and rugged, fits perfectly upside down in the pot over the burner and bottle, has the three Swedish crowns and manufacturer's name Stellana and the company's city Laxa and holds 400 ml or about 1 3/4 cups of liquid.

The Swedish Army issue can opener is about 1.75" long and made of non-rusting steel with a folding blued carbon steel blade, stamped with the three Swedish crowns.  It is officially referred to as the "M7481-021000 Konservbrytare Mini" and was distributed with the famous "Golden Can" Swedish Army canned rations which were a yellow metal color.  This opener is similar to the P-51 and P-38 US issue can openers but are steel instead of aluminum.

This set is the real thing, imported to USA from Sweden by me. I don't describe them as "New" because they are 50 plus years old but their unscorched paint is complete except for handling chips & slight dings, the burners are not black inside & the windscreens haven't seen flames. The Swedes consider these in "Oanvant" condition (unused).

These kits are extremely well designed and proven over time.  With utensils, alcohol, matches/gas lighter and dried food they are terrific for hiking and camping or as part of your emergency home or auto safety kit.  As long as you have alcohol to burn you will have freshly boiled clean water!  A wonderful gift for Girl or Boy Scouts!

YouTube has many, many videos reviewing the performance of the aluminum and stainless steel Swedish mess kits and the new and army Trangia burners and they offer excellent advice on which fuels to use, how to carry a full fuel bottle or burner, cooking tips, etc.  This is what the Brits would call an excellent piece of kit!

These are as good as they come and when they are gone they are gonna be very hard to find again!
