Issue: #4 Cover Date: November, 1964 1st Appearance of Zatanna; Origin of Zatanna; Guy H. Lillian L.O.C. The Girl Who Split in Two!; The Machine That Magnetized Men! Writers: Gardner Fox, Julius Schwartz Artists: Murphy Anderson, Murphy Anderson (inks), Gaspar Saladino (lettering), Julius Schwartz (editor), Murphy Anderson (cover), Murphy Anderson (cover inks) Appearances By: Zatanna (Zatanna Zatara), Hawkman (Carter Hall/Katar Hol), Hawkgirl (Shiera Hall/Shayera Hol), Police Commissioner George Emmett (Midway City) Having first appeared The Brave and the Bold #34, this title gave the Silver Age Hawkman a series of his own. The original Hawkman was Carter Hall, a native of Earth-2 (an alternate world which was used to explain away the differences between DC’s Golden Age and Silver Age super-heroes). This Hawkman is Katar Hol, a native of the planet Thanagar, but who now patrols Earth-1 (the primary Earth where the modern super-heroes live). Katar and his wife Shayera were police officers on Thanagar who came to Earth to pursue a felon from their world. Armed with flight belts and other gizmos from Thanagar, they catch the crook, then decide to stay on Earth to fight crime as super-heroes. This first Hawkman series is notable not only for the adventures of its colorful lead characters, but also for introducing super-magician Zatanna. Following issue #99, Marvel decided to "graduate" these two characters to their own titles. Iron Man started over with issue #1, and Captain America inherited Tales of Suspense’s numbering sequence, starting with issue #100.

Having first appeared The Brave and the Bold #34, this title gave the Silver Age Hawkman a series of his own.
