A pristine example of the much sought-after Evelyn Nesbit good-for 10c pocket mirror, which was issued for Conley's Cafe & Restaurant of Mt. Morris, New York.  Possibly the only example extant for this variety, and certainly one of the finest preserved specimens of the type known.  Mt. Morris is located in western New York state, about half-way between Buffalo and Rochester, population 4,465 as of 2018.

For anyone unfamiliar with Evelyn Nesbit, --the original Gibson Girl--, she was the subject of postcards, advertising, and other curiosities, a sort of Kim Kardashian of 1901-1906 and widely admired for her natural beauty.  Her love life led to a cataclysm of jealousy and animosity, eventually resulting in her husband (Harry Thaw) murdering her one-time lover (Stanford White) in front of 500 people at Madison Square Garden on the evening of June 25, 1906.

The subsequent court proceedings were called "The Trial of The Century" --eclipsing even the OJ Simpson affair for sheer media sensationalism.  Harry Thaw was a wealthy industrialist from Pittsburgh who never quite got over the idea that White, then a highly successful architect, had once seduced his wife when she was only 16 after plying her with alcohol and drugs.   Thaw was eventually found not-guilty at trial, the first defendant ever to rely on the then novel "temporary insanity" defense to justify his actions.

The two were divorced in 1915, and Nesbit quickly faded into oblivion before finally passing in 1967 at the age of 82 in Santa Monica.

Amazingly crisp detail in the photograph, 55 mm diameter, cellulose nitrate and glass.  NO cracking or other defects in the celluloid.  Fresh sharp color and fully functional mirror without discoloration or other damage.  Reverse edge labeled Cruver MFG Co. - Chicago.  Cruver Manfacturing was established in 1902, moved to West Jackson Blvd. in 1914 (illustrated), and eventually became a defense contractor during World War II.  They were still in business as late as 1968, by then located on S. Cicero Avenue and still making novelties.

Don't miss this chance to add what is without question a museum-quality example of this rare and sought after piece of early 20th century United States history.  Your chances of obtaining a nicer example are near ZERO, and the pride of ownership that comes along with a collectible like this should not be underestimated.

Thank you for having a look.
