Item is legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, Chapter 14.

Artifact Info: Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, artifacts date estimate 1100AD-1400AD. The artifacts were contained within a weaving textile work basket that was collected in the 1950's. Nicely preserved due to the dry, coastal climate of Peru.

Details: This auction includes (2) Authentic PreColumbian Artifacts with a display case, with a textile fabric and the original thread that matches the thread used for the textile which has survived for 600-900 years.
  • (1) Ancient textile artifact with a gauze-type weave, with dark brown thread used. This rectangular textile is all in one piece. It is extremely fragile, dirty and should be kept in the air-tight case to preserve it from deterioration. Size: approx 10 inches x 7 inches (longer if stretched out).
  • (1) Long wooden needle with incised painted pottery spindle whorl and dark brown thread which is the same thread as the textile. Size: approximately 11-1/2 inches. Spindle whorls were used in ancient times for making textiles. At archaeological sites, the presence of spindle whorls indicate advanced technological textile production by using a spinning technique.
  • Display case included as a courtesy to protect artifacts during shipping and to preserve the artifacts.
  • Display case size: 14-1/2 inches x 8 inches x 3/4 inches.
  • Condition: Wooden needle tip missing, minor nicks, abrasions, chips, loosening of threads, scratches, patina, earthen deposits on all artifacts commensurate with age. No restoration. Very good condition. Textile fibers and threads very fragile.
  • Guarantee line: Chancay 1100AD-1400AD weaving basket tools and textile fabric from within a weaving basket.
