This polychromatic Chinese Foo Dog/Lion displays all the fine hand painting and glazing desired on these guardians of good fortune.
The green and yellow is an example of the "Family Verte" glaze. The fierce countenance of these creatures is emphasized with the open eyes, mouth and protruding tongue. This is a male Foo Dog, discerned by the paw that rests on a ball which is the "pearl" of good luck or some say it represents the world.
It measures about 6 1/2" tall x 2 1/4" across the base. Clearly marked "China" on the underside
It's in very good antique condition, likely from the early 1900's. No chips, cracks or repairs.
